Florida Sea to Sea

Pedaling the Coast to Coast Trail

Tour Info

Enjoy seven relaxing days of warm weather, sunshine, good food, and pedaling the Florida Coast to Coast Trail from the Gulf of Mexico to the Atlantic Ocean!

Long before Disney and Universal arrived, people came to Florida for its natural beauty, warm sunny winters, beaches, and a mish mash of funky tourist stops. Florida produces 70% of the U.S. citrus crop and you’ll enjoy pedaling along quiet groves covered with the little white blossoms. that will become oranges, grapefruit and tangerines. There’s something magical about riding along and taking in air filled with the sweet scent of orange blossoms, and you’ll get a chance to experience that wonder. Cycle across a Florida of wildlife, ranches, fishing villages, mermaids, and natural springs. Pedal across and experience a mix of Old Florida and modern Florida famous for its prominent role in space exploration and theme parks. Our tour ends on the shores of Cape Canaveral where you’ll have time to explore the history, people and future of space exploration as we tour Cape Canaveral and the Kennedy Space Center!

Florida Sea to Sea is named to both describe this bicycle vacation tour and remember the Pacific to Atlantic tours where hundreds of people would spend a summer sleeping in tents and pedal across the United States and Canada to fight poverty. Our tour leader Terry invites folks to join him on Florida Sea to Sea to enjoy the Coast to Coast Trail, reunite with old friends and make new ones. Create memories of camaraderie, joy and wonder as we pedal along white sand beaches, under moss covered oaks, and try to catch a glimpse of mermaids, sponge divers, and rockets reaching for the heavens. In keeping with the spirit of the original Sea to Sea, a portion of any profits will be donated to World Central Kitchens and the work they do to feed those in need.

General Itinerary

Arrival - Gulf of Mexico

Your guides will meet you at Tampa International Airport and whisk you off to our lodging near the waters of the Gulf of Mexico. After picking up your registration packet, enjoy the sun, water and shops. Tonight you’ll attend orientation and meet your fellow riders at our reception.

Day 1 - Gulf of Mexico to Tarpon Springs

It’s a beach day! Your tour begins with a ride out to the beach for our customary tire dip into the ocean and then it’s onto the Florida C2C Trail making pedal strokes as we ride to the “Sponge Capital of The World” where Greek divers would harvest sponges from the Gulf of Mexico. For 30 years the sponge industry was the largest industry in Florida. Sponges harvested from the waters off the coast of Tarpon Springs are still considered some of the finest natural sponges in the world! It’s a short day so you can take time to explore the sponge docks, enjoy a sightseeing boat tour, dolphin watch, visit the museums, or just enjoy the ocean breezes. And for dinner? Greek of course! Mileage options 0 - 21.

Day 2 - Tarpon Springs to Spring Hill

Yesterday was about beaches, palm trees and coastal communities, today we pedal the Florida C2C Trail into the inland environment of Florida. You’ll roll along pine, cypress and oaks heavy with Spanish Moss including the Starkey Wilderness Preserve’s 18,000 acres of conservation lands which provide habitats and clean water that helps keep the Gulf a sanctuary for sponges, dolphins and game fish. One mythical creature that benefits from these waters is found in Spring Hill. Attracted there by the deepest freshwater cave system in the country and it’s massive spring pumping out over 111 million gallons of clear cool water a day, you can watch mermaids and mermen cavorting in the clear waters! Tonight we’ll enjoy the balmy weather with an evening meal out on the patio. Mileage options 0 - 48.

Day 3 - Spring Hill to Lake Apopka

We continue our eastward journey after a warm up day and stretch out along Florida’s Coast to Coast Trail and our first day on rural roads as we roll to Lake Apopka. These quiet roads take you past ranches, groves, and small towns steeped in Old Florida flavor. Who knows you might even catch a whiff of orange blossoms! The day ends where old Florida meets modern Florida. We’ll dine near the Citrus Tower, built in 1956 to showcase citrus groves that spanned to the horizon in every direction. Rising 226 feet out of a flat landscape, it was once the most popular tourist attraction in the Orlando area. Today that view is dominated by modern tourist attractions like Universal Studios and Disney World. Mileage options 0 - 60.

Day 4 - Lake Apopka to Lake Monroe

Welcome to Central Florida and the megalopolis of Greater Orlando. Thanks to the Florida C2C Trail, you’ll negotiate across this city of 2.5 million people on bike trails and lanes. Before Disney, Orlando was a sleepy little town famous for the hundreds of lakes and springs that dotted the region. If the weather allows, our afternoon rest stop will let you cool your feet at an old locals favorite spring. Don’t worry about the gators, they rarely chase bicyclists! Tonight we enjoy dinner near the shores of Lake Monroe. Mileage options 0 - 60.

Day 5 - Lake Monroe to Canaveral National Seashore

Today we pedal stroke our way out of modern Florida and return to Old Florida rolling on the Florida C2C Trail through pines, oaks and cypress as we make our way to Titusville. Get a glimpse of the Florida Terry grew up in as we head to the coast. After a few meditative hours of rolling through Florida woodlands you’ll roll under I-75 and begin re-entry into Titusville, home to the launch facilities of NASA, SpaceX, Blue Origin, and the United States Space Force. Here your pedal strokes come to an end on the beaches of the Atlantic Ocean. Enjoy the ride through protected Merritt Island Wildlife Refuge and Canaveral National Seashore where you welcome back the palms, pelicans and millions of migratory birds. Watch dolphins in the Indian River and spend a quiet moment with the manatees while off in the distance stand the launch facilities where mankind reaches for the stars! Mileage options 0 - 58.

Day 6 - Kennedy Space Center

This morning we explore the Kennedy Space Center. Then enjoy a late lunch at an iconic seafood shack and reminisce on a great week of riding and celebrate our trek across Florida on the Coast to Coast Trail. Tonight dinner is on your own. Mileage options 0.

Day 7 - Departure

What a week it’s been! Florida wildlife including mermaids, manatees, gators, flamingos and pelicans. The amazing Florida Coast to Coast Trail. The food, the people, and the amazing staff of Pedalstroke Tours! Now it’s time to return home and begin planning for your next Pedalstroke Tour! The Sea to Sea Florida Experience:

  • Bask under the sun in a gentle tropical climate with an average high temp in the low 70’s (F). February is one of the driest month of the year in Florida but a shower is possible and a strong cold front may drop morning temps for a day, so pack accordingly.

  • Relax each evening in your private room. If you prefer, you can name roommates for significant savings.

  • Let us take a load off your shoulders. Once you arrive and check-in, the Pedalstroke staff will transport your luggage each day from room to room. Just focus on your pedal stroke and enjoy your vacation.

  • There is no better spice than bicycling to make food delicious! Breakfast and dinner are included each day and lunches are on your own unless noted in the detailed itinerary. Florida is an interesting collection of cuisines influenced by local fishermen, immigrants, northern transplants and generational Floridians. You can enjoy BBQ, seafood boils, cuban pork sandwiches, gator tail, shrimp and grits, conch fritters, key lime pie, and fruits or vegetables often grown just a few miles away. Florida’s diversity of fruits and vegetables gives craft brewers, distillers, vintners and restaurateurs an extensive palette to entertain your palate!

  • Your Pedalstroke Tours crew includes a mechanic, massage therapist, and SAG stewards who are here to make your bicycling vacation a thing of wonder.

  • The Florida C2C Trail begins in St. Petersburg on the Gulf of Mexico and meanders to the roaring surf of the Atlantic Ocean at Canaveral National Seashore. Like pro riders, we will ride the good stuff and shuttle past the few gaps in the C2C Trail that cannot be safely navigated. You may choose to shuttle any part of any day, or the entire day! It’s your vacation, ride the way you want. Just let the Pedalstroke team know what you prefer.

  • Pedal without worrying about your fitness. The grades are gentle and each day has route options to meet your mood and condition. Choose your daily distance simply by letting the Pedalstroke Tours crew know what you’ve chosen for the next day. It’s your vacation, ride what you want!

  • More time to explore! On Sea to Sea Florida you’ll have time to relax on the beach, take a sponge boat tour, see the mermaids, stroll through historic towns, tour the Kennedy Space Center or spend some quiet time with the manatees.
